URI Internship

Summer of 2018

Over the summer, I was offered the chance to participate in programs at URI's Graduate School of Oceanography and Inner Space Center, these camps allowed me to engage and study engineering fields firsthand. My first week I participated in URI's Ocean Exploration: Naval Science and Technology Camp at their Graduate School of Oceanography, there I was taught by oceanography and marine science professors, I even had an amazing opportunity to speak with the engineers and scientists aboard the reach vessel Nautilus. I also had the opportunity to have personal conferences with electric boat engineers and the Science Adviser from the Undersea Warfighting Development Center in Connecticut. The following month I participated in the Northwest Passage Project at URI's Inner Space Center which included only two selected students from twelve high schools from around the country. There we planned to virtually participate in the Northwest Passage expedition through the Inner Space Center. There I had exposure to the most cutting-edge technologies being used to study the ocean, while also being involved with URI's and NASA SUBSEA's marine scientists and engineers. My experience at both programs made me interested in following a career in ocean engineering.
